Elegy for a Swim
Elegy for a Swim
About this project
The experience of making wild swims around the coastlines of the British Isles as well as in urban water and inland rivers is tinged always with a sense of melancholy. The act of swimming is exhilarating, nerve-racking, intensely vibrant; yet, even though each immersion is captured on digital film, there is constant awareness that this – this now, this sensation – can neither be relived nor shared. This body of work acts as an elegaic realisation of this paradox.
Each piece measures 78 x 55 cm and is hand printed with a text emboss on Hahnemuhle paper.
